adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Now request this dog! Mara has found her people! Her story: Mara and her sister were found in a heartbreaking state on the street: completely dirty, hungry, and likely simply left to fend for themselves. But those who think that Mara has therefore lost faith in the good can be severely mistaken. At her foster home with Ana, the small female dog, who could be a Havana mix, shows herself to be incredibly loving, outgoing, and clingy. She soaks up every bit of affection and approaches everyone openly – whether two-legged or other dogs, or even cats. She also gets along famously with children. With her current size of about 25 cm, Mara is likely to remain a manageable companion, but one shouldn't be fooled by her sweet "teddy bear" appearance. Mara is a real dog with smart eyes that observe everything happening around her. Currently, she is still in the puppy stage, where she must still discover the world. Everything is new to her, and she must learn the basics of being a dog – from house training, being alone, to walking on a leash – from the ground up. This requires a lot of time, patience, and strong nerves. After this formative first phase comes puberty, in which Mara, like any teenager, will test her limits and seemingly forget what she has learned. Especially with such small and cute dogs, it's tempting to overlook mischief. But here, a loving and consistent upbringing is crucial. To turn the sweet Mara into a relaxed and confident companion, she needs people who not only spoil her but also lead her and give her clear structures. Attending dog training classes is the ideal way to deal with her mischief with a dose of consistency and humor. Mara travels microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea-treated to her family, together with her EU pet passport. But also a foster home would be a big step towards a happy future. Who is ready for the adventure of "puppyhood" and gives this brave female dog a permanent safe home? Thank you, Daniela S.! With your namesake sponsorship, you have given Mara the chance to have a happy dog life. As of: 13.12.

Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen! Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt diesen Hund anfragen! Stand: 13.12.2025

About Mara

What life with Mara looks like

Mara is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mara, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mara?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mara on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mara if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mara already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mara isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mara and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
