Ο Μάριος και η αδελφή του εγκαταλείφθηκαν, μικρά κουτάβια ακόμη, στο βουνό του Λουτρακίου. Ευτυχώς, μια καλή ψυχή που ζούσε εκεί κοντά δεν αδιαφόρησε και έβαλε τα δύο μικρά κουτάβια στον περιφραγμένο του κήπο, προσφέροντάς τους τροφή και ασφάλεια. Τρομοκρατημένα αρχικά, δεν ήθελαν να πλησιάσουν κανέναν, φοβισμένα από τη σκληρότητα της εγκατάλειψης. Η αδελφή του, βρήκε σύντομα ένα σπίτι, αφήνοντας τον Μάριο να συνεχίσει το ταξίδι του μόνος.
