Adopt Marley

Mixed Breed · Unknown

Marley is a handsome, young herding dog mix at the perfect age. Due to a biting incident, he had to leave his old home and was therefore brought to us. As a result of this incident, Marley has been classified as dangerous and must wear a muzzle and be on a leash whenever he leaves private property. Therefore, we only place him with people who have experience handling difficult and behaviorally challenging dogs. Marley likely never learned much. Boundaries and rules are foreign concepts to him. He is unfamiliar with many environmental stimuli and reacts with uncertainty. All in all, this means one thing: a lot of work ahead. Marley needs to learn to submit to humans and relinquish control. He has never had a framework to follow. When boundaries are set, he tries to assert his will by using his teeth. His frustration tolerance is very low and needs to be improved through training. Exercise plays an important role in his training, but it must be done in the right way. During walks, Marley gets stressed very quickly, but with confident leadership, he can walk without any issues on a leash. Food plays a significant role in his life and can quickly become a resource he defends. The same applies to toys of any kind, so playing with them should be avoided. Marley finds fellow animals acceptable depending on his liking. However, he usually cannot tolerate unneutered male dogs. A single dog is not out of the question, but it should be very confident and physically capable of handling him. Given his many issues, we cannot envision him in a home with children or cats. An environment with minimal stimuli would be ideal for him. If you are interested, we look forward to receiving a detailed email with your phone number. This animal was surrendered to the shelter. This animal is not suitable for homes with children.

About Marley

What life with Marley looks like

Marley is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Troisdorf in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Marley, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Marley?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Troisdorf handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Marley on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Marley if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Troisdorf will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Marley already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Marley isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Troisdorf early rather than rehoming privately; they know Marley and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
