Adopt Marley

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Young · 3 years

"Marley and me" – who doesn't know it, the great, funny, heartwarming, tear-jerking comedy about an energetic Labrador and his family. A story with highs and lows, tears, anger, fun, adventures, goodbyes – and above all, a story of lifelong unconditional friendship. Anyone who brings a dog into their home decides to start a journey, rarely knowing exactly how it will turn out, whether it will be very bumpy, whether it will lead straight like a highway, whether you might have to climb over obstacles, but no matter what, you will always know you are never alone. Our Marley resembles the movie star (or rather movie stars – because the dog in the Hollywood comedy was portrayed by no fewer than 22 four-legged actors), but he seems to be a bit less behaviorally creative ... Our lovable and balanced new arrival is about 3 years old (as of May 2021) and a real gentleman. He was discovered by a loving animal family wandering the streets of Seville, and because Marley was so friendly and sociable, they took the sweet boy home. Unfortunately, the life of his rescuers was not very dog-friendly, and Marley would have had to spend a lot of time alone if he had stayed with them. But a young Labrador mix does not want to sit all day in the apartment watching the cat sleep, so they decided to give Marley the chance for a journey to happiness. And here he is now, equipped with a stylish blue passport, with many dreams of his new family in his luggage. Marley is a very lovable character who is easygoing with people and animals. He lived with cats at his rescuers, he likes children and is very patient, he is playful and has excellent cuddling qualities. Marley is caramel-colored and just as sweet as the sticky temptation – and yet completely calorie-free, on the contrary, he could certainly be the starting point to perfecting a summer figure ... It doesn't get much better than that, and therefore we hope our sunshine can soon happily climb out of the transporter to join his new best friends.

About Marley

What life with Marley looks like

Marley is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Marley, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Marley?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Marley on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Marley if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Marley already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Marley isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Marley and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
