Mars

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 1 year

Mars came into our care a few months ago after being abandoned near a forest and found in very poor physical condition - extremely thin and weak. He was initially very anxious and was initially cautious around people. However, in his Romanian foster home, he made tremendous progress and began to trust, relax and discover how beautiful life with people can be. Mars now trusts the people he knows, enjoys petting and being close to them and is getting better at getting used to new people. He is very intelligent, attentive and eager to learn. He learns quickly, responds very well to training and is a loyal dog who builds a close bond with his people. He is already learning a few basic commands, can walk on a leash and runs well on a leash, he loves to fetch his toys. He is eager to learn and wants to work with his human. He is very social, loves the company and playing with other dogs and interacts very nicely with them. He plays gently and can withdraw if the other dog doesn't want to play anymore. The company of other dogs does him very well and helps him to be more balanced. Mars is still a young dog full of energy and enthusiasm. Sometimes his emotions are still greater than his self-control. That's why he needs people who accompany him patiently and consistently. When he is very happy, he may try to grab hands, clothes, slippers or objects with his mouth. He is very playful and curious and loves to pull or carry things. That's why he still needs to learn what is appropriate in everyday life and what is not. We wish for the young Mars a dog-experienced, loving family who gives him structure, clear boundaries, patience and orientation.

About Mars

What life with Mars looks like

Mars is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Pfotenglück Bayern in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mars, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mars?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Pfotenglück Bayern handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mars on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mars if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Pfotenglück Bayern will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mars already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mars isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Pfotenglück Bayern early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mars and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
