Martin 🦜

Male

Our mountain parrot Martin came to us as a found animal. Unfortunately, we do not know his previous history. Martin is probably a male - we cannot be sure, however, as no genetic test has been performed. Here at the shelter, Martin shows himself to be a rather quiet and reserved representative of his species. He is not tame and therefore needs people who enjoy getting to know a bird from a distance and giving him the necessary time to settle in. We are looking for a suitable home for Martin with a compatible mountain parrot as a companion and partner. The company of a companion is particularly important for his well-being. Since Martin is not tame and his history is unknown, we are looking for people with experience in keeping parrots who know his needs and can provide him with a quiet, suitable home. If you would like to give Martin the chance of a suitable and permanent home, please do not hesitate to contact us. ❤️

About Martin 🦜

What life with Martin 🦜 looks like

Martin 🦜 is a adult bird waiting at Tierheim Düsseldorf in Düsseldorf.

Birds are long-lived, social, and noisy. The species and individual history matter enormously — ex-companion parrots can carry strong attachments and trauma. Ask the shelter about their daily routine, diet, and whether they'd do best alone or with a flockmate.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Martin 🦜, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Martin 🦜?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Düsseldorf handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Martin 🦜 on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Martin 🦜 if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Düsseldorf will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Martin 🦜 already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most birds on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Martin 🦜 isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Düsseldorf early rather than rehoming privately; they know Martin 🦜 and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
