Martin

Mixed Breed · Male

Martin is a mixed-breed male puppy born in January 2022, who was seized by his owner due to terrible living conditions and brought to the animal shelter of our Hungarian partner organization. He suffered from Demodex mange and was treated for it. His skin has now fully recovered, but it must be ensured that if the dog's immune system weakens, the skin inflammation does not recur. Martin has an open and very friendly nature, but he may initially be afraid of strangers. Once he has gained trust and settled in, he presents himself as a cheerful and lively young dog who enjoys spending time together. He is very teachable and will soon understand the routines in his new home. Due to his nice character, he is well suited as a family dog, although children should be older and sensible. He gets along well with all his fellow dogs and would be a great choice as a second dog. It is not known how he reacts to cats. He wants loving and active people who have enough free time to show him the world patiently and do not live in the middle of the city. Some experience in dog keeping should already be available. The male has a shoulder height of 47 cm and weighs 17 kg.

About Martin

What life with Martin looks like

Martin is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Animal Care Hungary.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇭🇺Adopting from Hungary

Hungarian shelters operate at high capacity given the country's stray population. Animals leave sterilized, chipped, and with a passport. Many shelters coordinate transport to Germany, Austria, and the Nordics.

Frequently asked

Adopting Martin, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Martin?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Animal Care Hungary handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Martin on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Martin if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Animal Care Hungary will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Martin already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Martin isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Animal Care Hungary early rather than rehoming privately; they know Martin and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (HU). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
