Marvin2014 | Piebald | Gypsy Cob | Under 14.2hhSponsoring a pony like Marvin means you are making a commitment to helping us, help unwanted colt foals who are abandoned and left for dead. This is a serious aspect of horse welfare in the UK and one that will sadly need interventions from charities like ours for the foreseeable future. The story so far...Marvin came to us as a desperate colt foal, discovered by one of Northumberland County Council’s Animal Welfare Team. He had been abandoned – left tied to the railings of a derelict school, with two others, who we named Doogie and Donald. It was a freezing wet night in December when three cold and wet, hungry little ragamuffins arrived.Their filthy, matted coats barely disguised their skeletal little bodies. Riddled with lice and suffering from a heavy roundworm burden, they quickly lay down together in the deep straw bed, munching quietly on hay. It’s always good for the team at times like this, to know they have found a bit of horsey heaven.Foals in this state, having been weaned from their dam (mother), at 4-6 months of age and never been de-wormed, swiftly become malnourished. They barely weigh more than the day they were born. It

About Marvin

What life with Marvin looks like

Marvin is a senior horse waiting at Here4Horses in United Kingdom.

Adopting a horse is a long-term commitment that almost always requires either land or a boarding stable. The shelter will discuss the horse's training level, vet history, and what kind of work or companionship they're suited for. Expect ongoing costs: feed, farrier, vet, and stabling.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

Paperwork, vet checks and transport rules differ by species and by country. Ask the shelter what is included and what you will need to arrange before you commit.

Frequently asked

Adopting Marvin, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Marvin?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Here4Horses handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Marvin on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Marvin if I live in another country?
Sometimes. Whether a horse can move between countries depends on the species and the rules in both countries, and some species need permits or have restrictions. Ask Here4Horses what paperwork and transport they require, and check the import rules of your country before you commit.
Is Marvin already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
What a horse comes with (vet checks, vaccinations, identification, paperwork) varies by shelter and species. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask Here4Horses directly what is included and what Marvin still needs.
What happens if Marvin isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Here4Horses early rather than rehoming privately; they know Marvin and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
