Maryqueen

Mixed Breed · Male

Maryqueen is a cat who was rescued from a breeding site south of Rennes. She was the last kitten on the site, as the other 30 stray cats had already been taken in by our association. Maryqueen was likely born on the site from the reproduction of the cats already there, so she has no human interaction, except to be wary of them as she survived on the streets. We thought we were done with the site after the arduous rescue of the 30 cats over several months, and we were unaware of her existence. Maryqueen had moved further away. It was people who reported her to us several months later: she was living in the crawl spaces of a building. Given her physical characteristics and behavior, we quickly made the connection with the other cats. The rescue was done urgently because she was not living alone in the crawl spaces: she had given birth to 4 kittens who were already large and were about to reproduce. It was not a question of leaving a new breeding site to be established... The volunteers then worked hard (and it's an understatement) to give them a roof and get them out of this misery. Several years outside after being born outside far from humans have naturally caused a deep-seated fear of humans. Maryqueen spent these years hiding and being afraid of the danger that humans could represent for her. This fear took time to fade: it took a lot of time, patience and gentleness for Maryqueen to understand that we were not a threat to her. The foster placement allowed us to accompany Maryqueen in a calm and secure environment. Being able to take the time is essential to allow socialization with humans. The presence of other cats was also crucial for her on a daily basis, it allowed her to be reassured and to see that companion humans, after all, it's pretty cool! This whole process proved to be worthwhile: today this beauty is a playful, dynamic cat who enjoys spending time with her companion humans. She is able to take care of herself and have fun alone, but when she wants contact, she approaches and gives head butts to get caresses. From her past outside, she retains a certain fear of stressful elements such as sudden movements and a direct hand approach. In this regard, we recommend adoption within a family without young children and who will adopt appropriate gestures to maintain and develop the bond of trust. Maryqueen is very greedy, so she will appreciate some treats or a good pâté to complete her happiness! She is just waiting for a family for life. We are looking for a calm home with patient humans who will give her the time she needs to adapt and take her bearings. The desired environment is an apartment or a house without access to the outside, and with one or more cats already, whose presence is necessary for Maryqueen to be...

About Maryqueen

What life with Maryqueen looks like

Maryqueen is an adult mixed breed cat waiting at ADPK - Association Des P in adpk association des p tits korrigans.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇫🇷Adopting from France

French refuges follow the SPA framework: adopters sign a cession contract that includes sterilization, vaccinations, microchip identification, and rabies passport. Many refuges work with rescue transport partners for cross-border placements.

Frequently asked

Adopting Maryqueen, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Maryqueen?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ADPK - Association Des P handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Maryqueen on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Maryqueen if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ADPK - Association Des P will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Maryqueen already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Maryqueen isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ADPK - Association Des P early rather than rehoming privately; they know Maryqueen and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
