If I understood correctly, the blood in his urine is related to this tear. They also noted that a lymph node is inflamed, which isn’t surprising given the context. Even though the prognosis is less favorable than we’d hoped after the ultrasound, Maserati still has a chance thanks to you. I hope life will finally be a bit kinder and gentler to him... Since the surgery, his urine and temperature have been fine. The vet examined him on Friday and again today. His belly is nice and soft, and the scar looks great. He’s even gained some weight. Since yesterday, he seems to have fully recovered. He’s back to all his little habits—softly whining with impatience when I prepare his food bowls, bustling around behind me like he sometimes does, sleeping on the couch, going outside to do his business... And he’s even discovered a new favorite: savoring his Activia yogurt sorbet for an afternoon snack (a little trick to make up for the fact that he still doesn’t drink enough). I recontacted the vet yesterday because he had a sort of abdominal lump and seemed more tired on Friday. Based on the photos, she identified an inflammatory reaction and suggested checking him again just to be safe. So we took him in. She drew fluid and confirmed it’s an inflammatory reaction, checked his temperature and the softness of his belly. Everything’s fine. Since he’s very fragile due to the abdominal “tightening” caused by the trap (she used a medical term I didn’t catch), she still preferred prescribing antibiotics for five days—until Wednesday, knowing we already have an appointment on Thursday. I feel like the inflammation is starting to subside today. No fever and his belly is soft. He’s still eating well, and he’s even drinking more since three days ago. But when we had to be away for a few days at the end of March, he decided, upon our return, to join us in our living space and settle down on the couch between my husband and me. It’s just a feeling, but I really got the impression it took us not being there for him to realize we bring him something more than just full food bowls at the front door. He’s truly touching—and also very easy to live with despite his fears. He comes right away when I call him to eat, he’s clean, he can be walked on a lead, he fits easily into the carrier if he needs to go to the vet... Since late April, he seems to be at a plateau. Maybe he needs time to digest and integrate everything he’s experienced since his arrival. At the same time, he’s becoming more and more daring, expressing himself, asserting himself, and taking initiative. Handling still remains a source of stress, especially putting on the harness. Depending on the day, he can be more or less open and receptive to putting on the harness, to petting, to walks... He still hesitates to cross the road to go for a walk, but once he decides, he goes for it!! And when he doesn’t feel like being petted, he’s hilarious—he gets up, does a 180-degree turn, and turns his back to us, showing us his rear end. That said, we feel he’s increasingly enjoying petting. Maserati is truly adorable, very gentle and sensitive. He’d been trapped, probably like Amanda, to prevent him from moving—which injured him and cut off his foreskin from his penis. Abandoned along with Subaru, he’d also suffered abuse; he had a rope tied around his abdomen that left marks.
