Mati

Mixed Breed · Female

There are always people who ask us why we check our adopters, why we ask so many questions, but stories like that of the little Mati clearly show why we think this way, and the cute female dog is unfortunately not an exception in Southern Europe. The older lady's owner never planned to mistreat a dog or even endanger the lives of her animals, but the step from "well-meaning" to catastrophe is often smaller than one thinks. The elderly woman took one dog after another into her home and gradually lost the ability to care for each of her protectees. When the situation became critical, the woman no longer knew what to do and simply put some of her animals on the street. Fortunately, ArcoNatura learned about the sad fate of the female dog, and Mati could move into the animal shelter. Initially, Mati was completely overwhelmed by the new environment, the unfamiliar people, and the unfamiliar dogs, and showed herself to be very shy, but our little snowflake is a smart girl and quickly realized that she no longer has to fear being overlooked during feeding or ending up on the street again. Every day, the three-and-a-half-year-old (as of 02/2023) is more and more integrating with the animal welfare workers and also forming friendships with her four-legged roommates. Mati is a quiet dog that needs a lot of security. A home where she can find places to retreat, where she is allowed to settle in peace, and where people are not disappointed if the small lady takes a little longer to relax on the couch, would be ideal for our princess. Mati loves long walks where she can slowly explore the still unfamiliar world. Add a warm cuddling basket for winter and a loving hand, and our tender and reserved girl really doesn't need anything else to be happy.

About Mati

What life with Mati looks like

Mati is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mati, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mati?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mati on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mati if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mati already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mati isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mati and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
