Matti

Mixed Breed · Unknown

Matti is a beautiful German Shepherd who has spent his life in love and peace as his only companion. Their relationship was close and intimate - Matti's world was entirely this person. Unfortunately, fate intervened and his owner died unexpectedly. The loyal dog thus lost everything at once: his home, his safety, and the person most important to him. Matti is now a resident of the shelter, and although the caregivers do everything for him, the dog is still very withdrawn and shy. He is wary of strangers, startled by sudden movements, and often seeks a quiet corner to hide from the world. But hope shines in his eyes - the memory of a better life, the desire for a new bond. We believe that with patience, understanding and love, Matti will be able to trust again. It just takes time... and a person who is not afraid of the challenge, but sees in him the loyal companion who once meant someone's whole world. If you feel you could be Matti's new family, please give him a chance. The most beautiful stories often begin quietly.

HU·Show original

A legszebb történetek sokszor csendesen kezdődnek.

About Matti

What life with Matti looks like

Matti is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Állatvédelmi Centrum in Hungary.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇭🇺Adopting from Hungary

Hungarian shelters operate at high capacity given the country's stray population. Animals leave sterilized, chipped, and with a passport. Many shelters coordinate transport to Germany, Austria, and the Nordics.

Frequently asked

Adopting Matti, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Matti?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Állatvédelmi Centrum handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Matti on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Matti if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Állatvédelmi Centrum will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Matti already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Matti isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Állatvédelmi Centrum early rather than rehoming privately; they know Matti and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (HU). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
