Adopt Max

Mixed Breed · Male

💚 Max on the path to a pain-free life, seeking a loving home 💚 The little Parson Jack Russell boy Max has already been through quite a lot. He came to us—along with his older canine friend—via a detour after his owner suddenly had to go to the hospital and ultimately surrendered both dogs. We don’t know what their previous life was like—but we do know this: Max deserves a second chance now. He still needs dental treatment, and his ears—which are currently in catastrophic condition—require ongoing care. We’ll cover these costs with our veterinarian. After that, he should finally get to live a life free of pain—he’s earned it so deeply! Personality-wise, Max is a friendly, playful, and affectionate little guy who needs to stay close to his humans. Being left alone is very hard for him—he makes that loudly clear. Right now, he lives peacefully alongside other dogs, but during first encounters he’s typically terrier-like: vocal, confident, and a bit confrontational—but this settles down when he’s guided calmly and consistently. We estimate this intact male dog to be around 8–10 years old, though he’s energetic and full of zest for life. He’s likely deaf, but we still need to observe him more closely to confirm. Ideally, Max would go to a single person or a couple who is steady, patient, and kind-hearted—and doesn’t mind a dog who occasionally voices his opinion with a bark. After an adjustment period, a second, confident dog could be considered, but it’s not required. Max is currently in a foster home, but he urgently needs a permanent home so he doesn’t end up in an animal shelter soon! About Max

What life with Max looks like

Max is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutz Kinzig-Main e.V. (Tierheim Gelnhausen) in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Max, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Max?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutz Kinzig-Main e.V. (Tierheim Gelnhausen) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Max on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Max if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutz Kinzig-Main e.V. (Tierheim Gelnhausen) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Max already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Max isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutz Kinzig-Main e.V. (Tierheim Gelnhausen) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Max and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
