Max

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 9 years

Our dear "Papa" Max has already had quite a journey. He comes from a Romanian shelter where he spent many years with his companion Lily. Since 12/25, he has been living on a loving foster home in Germany and is finally able to experience the beauty of a life in security. Max is a calm, gentle dog with a big heart. He is initially a bit cautious and shy around strangers, but he makes great progress in his own time. With patience, understanding and loving companionship, he gains more and more trust - and every small success is something very special. Max gets along well with other dogs. He drives in the car without problems, jumps in on his own and already walks nicely on a leash. He doesn't need long hikes or a lot of action anymore. He much prefers relaxed walks, quiet cuddle moments and a peaceful environment. For Max, we wish for a quiet home, preferably in a rural area, with a securely fenced garden or a large property where he can enjoy the sun and just be a dog. People who give him time to settle in and love him as he is will find Max a loyal and grateful companion. Do you want to meet Max? Then please contact us with a short description of yourself and your home. Then we will arrange a date for a joint meeting and a walk. Papa Max is vaccinated, microchipped and neutered and will be placed with a protection contract after a positive pre-control. Wearing a safety harness is necessary when picking up the dog. Such a harness (3 straps) can be purchased for only 25€. We thank the Netzwerk Fotos für Pfoten for the beautiful placement photos.

About Max

What life with Max looks like

Max is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Vierbeiner in Not e.V. in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Max, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Max?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Vierbeiner in Not e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Max on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Max if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Vierbeiner in Not e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Max already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Max isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Vierbeiner in Not e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Max and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
