Adopt Max

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Young · 1 year

Max was entrusted to us by the police, who saved him from his owner. The person who was supposed to provide him with safety threw the dog off a bridge. The intention was clear… Fortunately, Max survived. The police secured the dog and took care of the matter with the owner. Currently, proceedings are ongoing, so Max does not yet have a legally regulated situation and can only go to a temporary home at this point. Despite what he went through, Max did not lose his trust in humans. He arrived at us with bandaged paws, but the treatment brought relief, and today the pain is already in the past. He was assessed for up to a year – he’s still a puppy, full of energy, emotions, and joy of life ❤️Max is a huge cuddle and a pieszczuch (a term for someone who loves to pet). He very much craves human company, especially women. Men sometimes evoke slight worries in him, but there’s no aggression – rather uncertainty after the experiences. On walks, he can initially pull a bit, but he soon calms down. He gets very stressed at the vet and in such situations may whine. He seems neutral towards other dogs, though everything needs to be checked individually. We don’t yet know how he relates to children. We are looking for a temporary home for Max with the intention of making it permanent – a home that is active, patient, and responsible. One that will have the time to teach him about the world, work with him, and raise him into a wonderful dog. Because, although he measures around a year in terms of age, mentally he’s still a big puppy ❤️Max is waiting for his second chance. This time, a real one.

Takiego, który będzie miał czas nauczyć go świata, pracować z nim i wychować go na wspaniałego psa. Bo choć według metryki ma około roku, mentalnie to nadal duży szczeniak ❤️Max czeka na swoją drugą szansę. Tym razem prawdziwą.

About Max

What life with Max looks like

Max is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko Dłużyna Górna in Poland.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Max, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Max?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Dłużyna Górna handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Max on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Max if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Dłużyna Górna will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Max already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Max isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Dłużyna Górna early rather than rehoming privately; they know Max and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
