Max

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 1 year

Breed: mixed-breed male dog Age: born ca. 11/2024 Greetings, my dear friends… I am Max – I can actually be described with three words… Energy, joy of life, and heart in abundance!! I am young, full of energy, and strong, a dog with a determined personality… I am brimming with joy and enthusiasm – always ready to discover something new and to be active with my people… When the door to my kennel opens, my joy is hard to contain… I love attention, movement, and any form of shared mental stimulation… My greatest passion? Clear and simple: my ball! When playing, I really come alive and show how much fun and joy I have inside me… Thanks to the dedicated care and regular training by the volunteer helpers here at this breed shelter, I have made great progress in the last few weeks… Now I can walk well on a leash, run excitedly alongside a bike, go swimming, and get along well with other dogs… If you look at me more closely, you might suspect that a German Shepherd has mixed into my ancestry, as I probably have these unmistakable standing ears and the beautiful gray-brown shading in my fur… I was born at the shelter… and have only known the world through our volunteer helpers so far… I am looking for an active, experienced home that offers physical and mental stimulation… My new people should be sure to handle temperamental dogs, be able to give clear structures, and enjoy working with me… Whoever is willing to invest time, energy, and love in me will be rewarded with a loyal, athletic, and lively companion who brightens up every day with his charm… Would you like to meet me? Then please contact my handlers… I look forward to you Before I travel to my new home, I will still be neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated. If you would like to adopt me, please contact my handlers.

About Max

What life with Max looks like

Max is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Traurige Hundeherzen e.V. in Hamburg.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Max, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Max?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Traurige Hundeherzen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Max on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Max if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Traurige Hundeherzen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Max already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Max isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Traurige Hundeherzen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Max and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
