Adopt Maxwell

Mixed Breed · Unknown

Maxwell (born 2022) used to live in a home, but in the fall of 2024 he ended up in the shelter after the death of his previous caregiver, and the beginning was very difficult for him. It was like that until he trusted one of the volunteers, and with her help, a home was found for him in February 2025. However, it turned out that Maxwell absolutely could not accept the local cat and needed a firm leader, and after about a month he returned to the shelter. After returning from the adoption, he started to go out for walks more willingly, more people were able to get to know him, and he could interact with a larger number of people and build bonds. He is no longer a shy dog; he can show his potential – he is friendly towards people, eager for play and affection. However, he sometimes has moments of madness when he cannot control his emotions, so the future caregiver should therefore be responsible and aware of possible problems that may arise. He must dedicate his time and commitment to working with this dog, as well as be open to cooperating with a behaviorist to adapt the dog to life at home and new household rules. The shelter offers behavioral assistance. Maxwell has a good relationship with other dogs in the kennel. Let him finally find a loving home and leave the shelter bars forever!

Schronisko oferuje pomoc behawiorysty. Maxwell ma dobry kontakt z innymi psami z boksu. Oby znalazł wreszcie kochający dom i na zawsze opuścił schroniskowe kraty!

About Maxwell

What life with Maxwell looks like

Maxwell is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Słupsku in Poland.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Maxwell, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Maxwell?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Słupsku handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Maxwell on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Maxwell if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Słupsku will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Maxwell already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Maxwell isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Słupsku early rather than rehoming privately; they know Maxwell and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
