Maxx

Staffordshire Bull Terrier · Male · Senior · 9 years

Meet Maxx, our spirited and cheerful boy, born in March 2019, who's still in search of his forever home. Maxx is a Staffie cross, brimming with enthusiasm and intelligence. He's already been neutered, chipped, and vaccinated and is ready for adoption. Maxx thrives in an environment where he can channel his energy into play and training sessions. He's a remarkable pup, and he's looking for an experienced owner who's ready to be his guiding star. His previous journey brought him to us due to some issues with an older dog in the house, especially during mealtime. This lovable boy needs to be the sole pet in the household, and we will only consider applications from homes without children. We believe in Maxx's potential, and we've been diligently working on his impulse control with the help of behaviourists and trainers. He was returned from an earlier adoption due to hard mouthing when over-excited. We are pleased to say he's made excellent progress with his impulse control and is a more settled dog today. He's eager to learn, making him an ideal match for someone with a training background or experience in supporting a dog with higher needs. Our behaviourist had this to say about Maxx: "He has the potential to shine in any dog sport or activity, provided he's given the opportunity. Maxx thrives with a job to do and is quick to learn. He's the perfect companion for anyone passionate about dog training!" If you believe you could be the one to help Maxx reach his full potential, please complete our electronic application form with your details and share your previous experience. We'll also connect you with our behaviourist to ensure it's a perfect fit before moving forward. Maxx's story is one of promise and potential; let's help him find his happy ending.

About Maxx

What life with Maxx looks like

Maxx is a senior staffordshire bull terrier dog waiting at Windyway Animal Rescue in Macclesfield.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Maxx, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Maxx?: Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Windyway Animal Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Maxx on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Maxx if I live in another country?: Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Windyway Animal Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Maxx already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?: Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Maxx isn't the right fit?: Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Windyway Animal Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Maxx and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?: TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
