Maxy

Labrador Retriever Β· Male Β· Young Β· 1 year

Maxy can be excitable and conflicted when meeting other dogs. Although he has had a few positive mixes while in our care, he still needs support to develop his canine social skills and will require ongoing, positive socialisation. He would be best suited as the only dog in the home and cannot live with cats or small furries. His new family will need to be comfortable managing some dog reactivity, and Maxy must be kept on lead in public. With experienced owners who can provide clear guidance, continued training and plenty of patience, Maxy has the potential to become a wonderful companion. Maxy is a friendly, excitable and bouncy boy who loves being around people and enjoys playing with his toys. He can be very enthusiastic when meeting new people and will need some help learning to keep all four paws on the floor and develop his manners. Maxy would benefit from a home with previous bull breed experience, where his family can give him the time, patience and consistency he needs to learn basic training and settle into home life. He could live with older, confident secondary-school-aged children who have previous experience living with boisterous bull breed dogs and are comfortable around his energetic nature. Maxy enjoys playing with his toys and will always accept a tasty treat so useful for ongoing training.

About Maxy

What life with Maxy looks like

Maxy is a small young adult labrador retriever dog waiting at Dogs Trust Basildon in Wickford.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" β€” quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures β€” to let them settle.

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Maxy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Maxy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Basildon handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Maxy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Maxy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad β€” Dogs Trust Basildon will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Maxy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Maxy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Basildon early rather than rehoming privately; they know Maxy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
