MAYA &

Chihuahua · Female · Senior · 10 years

Maya, a sweet little Chihuahua, is looking for her forever family. Maya is an affectionate and loving dog who just wants to share her life with caring people. She is a real bundle of joy, loves being close to humans, and especially enjoys cuddling on laps. Discreet and calm, she doesn't bark unnecessarily, making her a pleasant companion. Clean and able to stay alone without difficulty, Maya also has excellent road trip skills. She even enjoys car rides as mini vacations! Sociable with other dogs, she used to live with another Chihuahua, CHIPIE, and they got along very well. We would like her adopted with CHIPE, a sweet little Bulldog. Unfortunately, we don't have information about cats yet. Maya has lived in a garden before, which would be a real plus for her well-being, although it is not an absolute requirement. A house with a secure outdoor area would be ideal, but apartment adoption could be considered under certain conditions, with regular outings and a suitable environment. Regarding children, Maya has already lived with two young kids without any problems. However, her difficult past requires consideration: having been abused before, she can sometimes react by "snapping" if she feels uncomfortable or surprised. She doesn't seek to bite, but her future adopters must show understanding, gentleness, and respect for her limits. The ideal home for Maya: A gentle and caring family that will offer her security and love. People ready to respect her past and give her time to flourish in confidence. A garden would be a welcome bonus. Calm children who are respectful of animals, under adult supervision. After the ordeals she has gone through, Maya deserves a serene life surrounded by love. In return, she will offer you all the tenderness and loyalty that this charming little dog is capable of. Do you think you can offer Maya and Chipie the home they deserve? Please contact us ONLY BY PHONE AT 02/523.44.16 to learn more or come meet them. They are eager to find their forever family!

About MAYA &

What life with MAYA & looks like

MAYA & is a senior chihuahua dog waiting at Help Animals in Brussels.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇧🇪Adopting from Belgium

Belgian shelters operate under regional law (Flanders, Wallonia, Brussels each have their own rules). All adoptions include the Eurochip, vaccinations, and a stewardship contract. Several Flemish shelters partner with Dutch and German rescue networks.

Frequently asked

Adopting MAYA &, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about MAYA &?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Help Animals handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw MAYA & on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt MAYA & if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Help Animals will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is MAYA & already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if MAYA & isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Help Animals early rather than rehoming privately; they know MAYA & and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
