Adopt MAYA

Border Collie · Female · Adult · 4 years

MAYA and NOA have been rescued from a woman with serious problems. A few years ago we also rescued them from her home, measures were taken and it seemed things would get better, but it has turned out not to be the case. The two arrived (September 2022) scared and with parasite issues. They need families where they can regain their trust. They are very close, but we know that a joint adoption will be very complicated. Sometimes miracles happen... maybe you can make it real, so they can stay together after the sad life they have shared... so they can both experience what it really means to be happy. But if you want to ask about just one of them, that's also possible. Either way, whether you ask about MAYA, NOA, or both, please ask us, okay? They need it with all their heart. About MAYA

What life with MAYA looks like

MAYA is a adult border collie dog waiting at Protectora Defensa Animal Palentina in Spain.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting MAYA, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about MAYA?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Protectora Defensa Animal Palentina handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw MAYA on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt MAYA if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Protectora Defensa Animal Palentina will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is MAYA already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if MAYA isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Protectora Defensa Animal Palentina early rather than rehoming privately; they know MAYA and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (ES). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
