adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Maya has found her home! Her story: The life of Maya and her sister Zara began far from how they deserved. The two puppies were cruelly placed together in a plastic bag and discarded in a Romanian underground garage. Fortunately, they were found by a woman who immediately took care of the two poor souls and brought them to the shelter in Bistrita. After such a terrible start, we only wish the best for the two and hope they find their respective new dream families quickly. Who will give Maya the chance at a happy new beginning? With her black, fluffy fur and dark button eyes, Maya resembles a small teddy bear. Her black fur is adorned with white spots on her chest and paws. At just three months old, Maya is currently very small. However, she is likely to grow into a medium-sized dog, though we cannot predict her exact size as we do not know her parents. Maya is an uncomplicated and friendly female dog. Typical of her young age, she loves to play and be active, meeting other dogs openly and confidently. She has also already met cats and greets them with great curiosity and playfulness. However, her new family should be aware that Maya is still unfamiliar with life in a loving family. She still needs to learn the whole puppy ABC and is yet to go through puberty. She needs people who can approach her with love and patience, possibly even attending positive dog training classes with her and forgiving her for any mishaps. Leash walking, house training, and being left alone are still foreign concepts to her. During puberty, she will likely test boundaries and perhaps forget some things she has learned. But once this phase is overcome, Maya will definitely make a great lifelong companion. Maya is microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas. She brings an EU pet passport with her and can be fostered. We would also be very happy to have a foster home for the sweet mouse. Who will give her a loving forever home? Many thanks to Caro! You named Maya. Status: 01.02.

Vielen Dank an Caro! Du hast Maya ihren Namen geschenkt. About Maya

What life with Maya looks like

Maya is a very small puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Maya, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Maya?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Maya on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Maya if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Maya already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Maya isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Maya and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
