Medárd

Mixed Breed · Male

Medárd is a male around one year old, German Shepherd type. A conscientious family asked for help, who were left by the "kind" neighbors. The story began when the "owners" took Medard as a puppy, but despite his cuteness, he was forced into the cage of the chain within a short time. Odes could be sung about why such people have dogs, but unfortunately, it does nothing for them anymore. The family constantly begged the neighbors to let the dog free, who was crying all day at the end of the chain, but the owners were inflexible. Then one day they decided to collect their things and move on, of course Medárd was not on the list of important things and they just said: "Since you love him so much, we will leave him to you!" Thus we came into the picture and became Medard's guardian. The lack of stimulation and education has left its mark on Medárd's behavior, who sometimes doesn't know what to do with his overflowing energy. Initially, the dog ran through the neighboring kennels with the other dogs, running back and forth barking, and the small puppies followed. Although this is nothing for many owner dogs, for those who have lived on a leash since puppyhood, it is a big deal to finally be able to run freely, even if only in a kennel. Thanks to our volunteers, he has learned to walk nicely, although he gets very excited when he sees the leash, but after a few minutes, he moves alongside the leg. For now, he is only getting to know the company of the dogs from a distance, he is not very friendly with the males, but we think that with the female dog, with enough patience, they can get along. Anyone who decides to adopt Medard into their family should be aware that they will have to learn together in a dog school, because Medard has a lot to catch up on. In return for the training, he will give you his eternal loyalty and love. You can inquire about him at 06 20 543 5092.

About Medárd

What life with Medárd looks like

Medárd is a extra-large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Luca Kutyamenedék in Hungary.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇭🇺Adopting from Hungary

Hungarian shelters operate at high capacity given the country's stray population. Animals leave sterilized, chipped, and with a passport. Many shelters coordinate transport to Germany, Austria, and the Nordics.

Frequently asked

Adopting Medárd, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Medárd?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Luca Kutyamenedék handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Medárd on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Medárd if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Luca Kutyamenedék will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Medárd already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Medárd isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Luca Kutyamenedék early rather than rehoming privately; they know Medárd and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (HU). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
