Mela

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 3 years

MELA IS CURRENTLY IN THE ADOPTEE MEETING. Mela arrived at our shelter in February 2026 with her seven puppies. Today, her children are already in their homes, and she is slowly preparing for her new life. She already has someone interested in adopting her, but before she goes to her new home, we are still working on her confidence and sense of security. Mela is a fearful female dog. Many things still frighten her—new situations, sudden movements, or unfamiliar sounds. On the play area, she often searches for a way to escape, as she still finds it hard to believe that nothing bad will happen to her anymore. Despite this, she is making huge progress. She is learning to walk on a leash, and she is increasingly finding her place in daily contact with humans, taking small steps to adapt to the world she previously knew nothing about. This is a very delicate female dog who needs time, patience, and a calm approach. Nothing can be rushed with her—yet even the smallest success brings double joy. Looking at Mela today and Mela a few months ago, we see a huge change. She still has a long way to go, but for the first time in a long while, she looks like a dog that is beginning to believe that life can be simply good.

About Mela

What life with Mela looks like

Mela is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko Skałowo in Poland.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mela, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mela?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Skałowo handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mela on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mela if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Skałowo will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mela already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mela isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Skałowo early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mela and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
