Adopt Melisa

Mixed Breed · Unknown

Melisa arrived with her children, Marcinko and Marcelka, whom she took great care of. She was very stressed and hid from people, but ate all the food left for her down to the last bite - it was clear how hungry she was. We knew she wouldn't find her way in the foundation's reality and ended up under the wings of one of our volunteers. She is a playful soul who loves to hunt for fishing lures, especially those that imitate flying birds. She also plays with her favorite mice, and at the same time she is very adorable, walking around the apartment with her catch in her mouth meowing. At the same time, Melisa is a shy cat when it comes to new situations and unfamiliar people, so she needs a caretaker who will be patient and understanding. When she feels safe, she becomes a loving and affectionate companion who enjoys being petted. She loves scratching behind the ears, cheeks, and chin. It can last a long time and her purring can be clearly heard. 🙂 In the temporary home, she gains freedom and confidence every day - from a withdrawn cat lying in the crate all day, she has become an active cat, bravely chasing toys and jumping on the scratching posts. She has no problem with other cats, she is not afraid, but she is also not pushy. However, we think she is not suitable for a home with children or very active cats, from which she might distance herself. Melisa needs time and peace to feel safe in her new home.

About Melisa

What life with Melisa looks like

Melisa is a small adult mixed breed cat waiting at Fundacja Psy Ulicy Warszawa in Warszawa.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Melisa, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Melisa?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Fundacja Psy Ulicy Warszawa handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Melisa on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Melisa if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Fundacja Psy Ulicy Warszawa will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Melisa already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Melisa isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Fundacja Psy Ulicy Warszawa early rather than rehoming privately; they know Melisa and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
