adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Now request this cat! Mellon has grown up together with his sisters in a small, closely knit group. From an early age, he had to learn to be cautious. He is a rather quiet, sensitive tomcat who takes his time to assess new situations and people. Mellon does not push himself to the forefront. He observes first, needs some space, and wants to understand that he is safe. Behind this reticence lies a gentle, affectionate character that shows itself once trust is established. Once Mellon has understood that nothing will happen to him, he becomes an attached and cuddly companion who enjoys closeness and values the affection of his people. He needs a quiet home with patience, empathy, and people who can give him the time he requires. Mellon gets along very well with other cats and is highly influenced by them. A social feline friend by his side is therefore important, which is why he is not rehomed as a single cat. Dogs have not been tested yet. A free run is not an option for him. His story is sad. Mellon was abandoned together with his siblings when they were only about three months old. They were left in a cardboard box near apartment buildings with nothing but some food. The next morning, they were still found there – frightened, hungry, and huddled together under a car. Despite their fear, they responded to friendly voices and food, a sign of how much help they needed. For his travel arrangements, Mellon is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas. He is FIV and FeLV negative. When Mellon finds a home, it gives a cautious tomcat the chance to learn trust—and to experience how reticence can turn into deep affection. A heartfelt thank you to Aunt Rabea, who gave Mellon his name and made it possible for him to have a secure future. As of: 23.04.

About Mellon

What life with Mellon looks like

Mellon is a young adult mixed breed cat waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mellon, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mellon?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mellon on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mellon if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mellon already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mellon isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mellon and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
