Mély

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 9 years

Mély – K410Female Staff LOF, born on 24/08/16. Mély has clearly had a life that hasn't been the easiest, and as a result, she’s rather independent. On walks, she doesn’t pull on the leash and is very alert to her surroundings. However, when she’s in her kennel (her safe space), Mély becomes extremely close to humans—hyper affectionate and gentle in a secure environment. She enjoys all people, including children, and helps dispel quick, preconceived notions about her breed. Having been disappointed by humans in the past, Mely was very independent and highly vigilant during her first months at the shelter. But little by little, she’s learned to trust, to relax, and today, she happily sniffs around, rolls over, reacts minimally to encountered stimuli, and pays attention to the human who’s with her. She’s alone in her kennel, but sometimes shares walks with a fellow staff dog, in calmness and mutual respect. She loves outings beyond the shelter, car rides, country walks—and above all, swimming and diving. Despite all the love she receives at the shelter, Mély is starting to find time long behind the bars of her kennel and longs to find a responsible family who will offer her some comfort and the small joys of everyday life. A nearby water source or a swimming pool would be an added bonus for this lovely girl. As she’s classified in category 2, certain administrative procedures will need to be completed; the shelter will explain everything to you. Good news: thanks to our partnership with the Fondation 30 Millions d’Amis, Mély benefits from the Seniors Operation, which means: • a complete veterinary check-up before adoption (blood test, urine analysis, scaling if necessary) • up to €1,000 in veterinary expenses covered after adoption, if needed. A huge thank you to the Fondation 30 Millions d’Amis for this initiative that helps our dogs and cats over 10 years old find a family. Her sponsor is also providing equipment to welcome her: a harness or something else. Come meet this sweet girl soon! Mély – K410Female Staff LOF, born on 24/08/16. About Mély

What life with Mély looks like

Mély is a senior mixed breed dog waiting at SCPA Carcassonne in Carcassonne.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇫🇷Adopting from France

French refuges follow the SPA framework: adopters sign a cession contract that includes sterilization, vaccinations, microchip identification, and rabies passport. Fees are typically €150–€300. Many refuges work with rescue transport partners for cross-border placements.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mély, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mély?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SCPA Carcassonne handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mély on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mély if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SCPA Carcassonne will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mély already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mély isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SCPA Carcassonne early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mély and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
