Menelaos

adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! Peace and contentment, wonderful Menelaos… His story: Great names cast long shadows. Menelaos, King of Sparta. A legendary figure. In this case, however, he is an elderly dog whose past is likely shrouded in legend. Menelaos was found by our animal rescuer Raluca in the middle of the street on her way to the animal shelter. It is likely he was abandoned there, as he was neutered but not microchipped. No one seemed to miss him, and so Raluca took him into her care. Menelaos is a very reserved dog. It seems he never really got to experience what it means to be loved and cared for. He spends most of the day sleeping and eating. Menelaos prefers to lie on his familiar spot. He does not want to be bothered by other dogs but accepts them. However, he feels much more comfortable in a solitary pen than living with the other dogs. The walking on a leash and the harness cause him discomfort, which he apparently is not used to, but he accepts them. At 61 cm, he is just about a large dog. He weighs a proud 40 kg on the scale, a few kilos less would certainly do him good. His movement is rather unsteady, he suffers from arthritis or arthrosis. His teeth are also in a bad state, but he shows no signs of it when eating. Eating is his passion. Menelaos seeks quiet people who do not have high expectations of him. He longs for a place where he can be himself. Ideally, as a solitary prince. A ground-floor apartment with a garden would be wonderful, where he can let his soul wander. He seeks people who can still give him love and security in his last years, which he might have never experienced. People who are willing to treat his arthritic suffering and perhaps even talk to him about "food," because while he should simply enjoy his life, a change in diet would certainly be a good idea. Maybe that would also increase his activity, at the very least his quality of life. Unfortunately, this cannot be guaranteed on site, even though our animal welfare workers give everything to make the animals' lives as pleasant as possible. Menelaos travels neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas. He also has his EU pet passport in his travel bag to his place of grace. A foster home would also be a great help for Menelaos, because even though we are currently having summer: the next winter is coming, and our senior should not have to live in the pen outdoors. Who has a dog bed for Menelaos free to sweeten his last days? Thank you, Silvie S.! You gave Menelaos a big name and thus the chance at a beautiful last chapter. As of: 01.07.

Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen! Ruhe in Frieden, toller Menelaos… Stand: 01.07.2024

About Menelaos

What life with Menelaos looks like

Menelaos is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Menelaos, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Menelaos?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Menelaos on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Menelaos if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Menelaos already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Menelaos isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Menelaos and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
