Adopt Meri

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 7 years

Meri will be 8 years old in the fall and arrived at the shelter two months ago. She didn't come alone; she arrived with her canine family. She came with her brother Čičak and their father, an 11-year-old dog who, by good fortune, has already found his home. They ended up in the shelter after the death of their owner, the only person and life they ever knew. Meri spent her entire life isolated in a yard, so the world outside at first was completely unknown and very frightening to her. Meri is the bravest of them all. She will approach unfamiliar people cautiously, appearing at the fence of her kennel. In the meantime, she has learned to walk on a leash, even though she is still getting to know daily life and all the new situations that come with it. New people, sounds, traffic, and unfamiliar circumstances are still something she is learning to understand and accept at her own pace. It is important to note that Meri has no aggressive reactions. When something is not to her liking or she is afraid, she simply retreats and seeks safety, without any negative reactions. She is sensitive, quiet, and a good soul who simply needs time, patience, and a sense of security. We believe that in a peaceful and warm home, with people who will give her a lot of understanding and tenderness, Meri will gradually flourish. She does not seek much, only the chance to finally feel safe and loved. ❤️ Meri will be 8 years old in the fall and arrived at the shelter two months ago. About Meri

What life with Meri looks like

Meri is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Azil Dubrovnik in Croatia.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇭🇷Adopting from Croatia

Croatian shelters include sterilization, vaccinations, and microchip ID in the adoption process. Several work with Italian and German rescue networks for placements.

Frequently asked

Adopting Meri, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Meri?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Azil Dubrovnik handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Meri on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Meri if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Azil Dubrovnik will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Meri already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Meri isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Azil Dubrovnik early rather than rehoming privately; they know Meri and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (HR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
