Merlijn

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 3 years

Merlyn is a handsome ram who entered Konijnenopvang Hazel on September 19, 2026. He is now safe at Hazel and we are looking for a loving home for him. Merlyn was born on July 15, 2023, and weighs approximately 3.55 kg. He is a big boy and therefore needs enough space to move around and explore his surroundings. On September 21, 2026, Merlyn was vaccinated against myxomatosis, RHD1, and RHD2. He has already been neutered; his castration took place on September 25, 2023. Character Merlyn is described as a feisty ram. He has a distinct personality and it is therefore important to get to know him slowly. Every rabbit is different and with a feisty character it is extra important to look at what suits him. A spacious living environment gives Merlyn the opportunity to be a rabbit. Think of enough space to move around, hiding places and opportunities to dig and explore. Merlyn is looking for a new home where he can be himself. Of course, we are also looking for a suitable female rabbit for him. Rabbits are social animals and a good match with a female rabbit is therefore important. Because Merlyn is a big ram, we are looking for a home where he gets enough space. In addition, a person who understands his character and gives him time to build trust slowly is a good match for him. Are you curious about this special ram? Then contact Konijnenopvang Hazel and inquire about Merlyn. Together we can look for a home and a female rabbit that suits him.

About Merlijn

What life with Merlijn looks like

Merlijn is a large young adult mixed breed rabbit waiting at Konijnenopvang Hazel in Netherlands.

Rabbits are social animals — most shelters recommend adopting them in bonded pairs rather than alone. They need fresh hay daily, several hours of out-of-cage time, and rabbit-safe spaces to explore. They live eight to twelve years, longer than many people expect.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Merlijn, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Merlijn?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Konijnenopvang Hazel handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Merlijn on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Merlijn if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Konijnenopvang Hazel will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Merlijn already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most rabbits on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Merlijn isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Konijnenopvang Hazel early rather than rehoming privately; they know Merlijn and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
