adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Merlin has found his people! His story: The chocolate Lab mix Merlin is as enchanting as his name. Pictures speak louder than a thousand words – and in Merlin's case, they show a beautiful, heartwarming male dog who adores our colleague. His deep connection and approachable nature shine through every photo, showing clearly that Merlin knows how unconditional love works from within. Merlin, about 1 year old, was found with his brother Levin near a pond. How they got there and the likely sad circumstances they lived under, we unfortunately do not know. Currently, Merlin is in a private Romanian "Open Shelter." But even though there are no kennels and the dogs can move freely in an enclosed yard in groups, they still lack the true freedom and the cozy feeling of warmth and belonging, which only a real home can provide. Therefore, this wonderful fur bundle must find his happiness. Please get in touch if you have a well-cared-for forever dog or at least one for fostering. Even though Merlin is still unfamiliar with a regulated home environment and has no prior training, he will learn what it means to be a family dog after a gentle settling-in period and loving guidance. Just as open and friendly as Merlin is towards people, he also shows it towards fellow animals. Whether he likes cats, we cannot answer at the moment. With his shiny, brown fur and a shoulder height of about 53 cm, the noble Merlin has the potential not only to win the hearts of Labrador fans but also to find a loyal and intelligent companion. Since the friendly Labrador is known for its eager-to-learn and active nature, it's important to keep Merlin occupied and stimulated. Dog sports like agility or mantrailing are very popular and could bring a lot of fun to the energetic young pup. Merlin is also currently going through puberty. A visit to a qualified dog training class could not only help him learn the basics of being a dog but also accompany this important developmental phase. Who would like to adopt this main prize of dog happiness and give him a wonderful life full of adventures and endless cuddles? Many thanks to Susi G. for taking over his nametag sponsorship. As of: 13.06. This animal is vaccinated. This animal is microchipped.

Stand: 13.06.2024

About Merlin

What life with Merlin looks like

Merlin is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Merlin, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Merlin?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Merlin on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Merlin if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Merlin already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Merlin isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Merlin and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
