Merlin

European Shorthair · Male

I am Merlin, a freedom-loving tomcat, on my way to loving human companionship and searching for a home with a yard. This is me: I came to the animal shelter for neutering as a free-roaming tomcat, but I very much appreciate a home with loving people and am now ready for my own "territory." I am very playful, curious, and a good hunter. I am not yet a cuddly cat, but my animal caretakers are sure: That won't last much longer. Treats, playtime, patience, and gentle affection will help. 🙂 What is important to me is a yard, preferably in a quiet, traffic-free location. I get along with other cats only with kittens; I tend to irritate cat girls. I unfortunately had a femur fracture, which was operated on at the animal shelter clinic. The implants will stay in place and will only be removed if there are problems. In front, I had an older humerus fracture – I have a permanent, mild lameness there, but I manage well. The implants will stay in place as long as everything is fine. I wish for... a quiet, experienced home with a yard, lots of patience during the adjustment period, and people who do not pressure me – I will come around on my own eventually if you offer irresistible temptations. If you can give me security, clear routines, and a safe territory to roam outdoors, I will definitely be a great roommate. If you can imagine a life with me, feel free to contact me using the form below. I would be very happy.

About Merlin

What life with Merlin looks like

Merlin is a adult european shorthair cat waiting at Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg in Berlin.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Merlin, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Merlin?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Merlin on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Merlin if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Merlin already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Merlin isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Merlin and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
