Adopt Mezzo

Bernedoodle · Male · Puppy · 4 months

Details Animal Name: Mezzo Breed: Dog Gender: Male Date of Birth: June 2025 Kids Friendly: Only with older kids Other Animals: Only dogs Description: Mezzo is looking for people with patience, structure, and dog experience Mezzo came to our animal shelter in June 2025 with his mother and siblings. The puppies are from an unapproved mating between a Berner Sennenhündin and a King Charles Cavalier. Unfortunately, Mezzo clearly shows what challenges can arise when dogs without adequate knowledge about temperament, breeding goals, and conformation are mated. Mezzo is a young dog with great potential, but also with some areas that still need to be worked on. He brings a lot of energy and is a very intelligent and trainable dog. At the same time, it is difficult for him to regulate his excitement. In exciting situations, he quickly gets worked up and may react with jumping or snapping behaviors if he feels overwhelmed or lacks orientation. To his people, Mezzo builds a close bond. He seeks contact, works well with his trusted people, and would like to be everywhere. At the same time, he needs people who can set clear boundaries and give him the security he cannot yet reliably provide himself. Calm, confident, and consistent leadership helps him orient himself and calm down. Mezzo is a strong dog who knows how to use his body weight. Therefore, we are looking for people who can lead him physically and mentally safely and enjoy working with him. He is smart, attentive, and learns quickly – qualities that can make him a great companion if guided in the right direction. With other dogs, Mezzo generally shows social compatibility and friendliness. He also knows and likes children. However, due to his temperament, size, and sometimes impulsive reactions, we see him more suited to a home with teenagers who can understand him. For Mezzo, we are looking for a home with dog-experienced people who are willing to invest time and engagement in his further development. Those who take on this challenge will not get a perfect dog "off the shelf," but a charming young companion with great potential who has the potential to become a wonderful lifelong partner. Mezzo is looking for people who meet him with calmness, clarity, and reliability – people who show him how wonderful it can be to go through life together. About Mezzo

What life with Mezzo looks like

Mezzo is a large puppy/kitten bernedoodle dog waiting at Tierschutz Hildesheim und Umgebung e.V. in Hildesheim.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mezzo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mezzo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutz Hildesheim und Umgebung e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mezzo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mezzo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutz Hildesheim und Umgebung e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mezzo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mezzo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutz Hildesheim und Umgebung e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mezzo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
