Adopt Mia

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 2 years

Name Mia R. Born around February 2024 Gender female, neutered Breed mixed breed Size approx. 50 cm foster home Mia is still in the country of Romania with our animal protection friends. She can travel once we find a foster home (preferably with adoption intentions) in the Mainz/Wiesbaden area. The ages mentioned here are often estimates, as we don't always know the exact age. Other details like size are subjective. The young female dog lives in a Romanian animal shelter in Campulung. She arrived there as a puppy and has unfortunately not had much time to get to know her surroundings. Our animal protection colleagues on site say the following about her: I was abandoned at the animal shelter with my five siblings. On the surveillance camera, Oana later noticed that a car from another district stopped and abandoned us as puppies. Without our mother, without further explanation! Since then, I have lived with my siblings Elvy, Tick, Trick, and Track in a pen. Of course, as a young gang, we are totally playful and give each other support. Our daily life is rather boring, as we don't get much mental stimulation. This, and the life in the animal shelter in general, leaves its mark, especially on me. I become more reserved and no longer rush to the front when the caretakers come into our pen. I retreat a little into myself and let life pass me by. This should not be, and it would be great if someone could save me. Life with walks, training for basic obedience, cuddles, and play would be wonderful to escape the daily routine and fight against my growing resignation. We are looking for people who are willing to take on the adventure of an international dog and give him a second chance at a responsible home. If you are interested in this great dog, please fill out the Referral Form or call us at the phone number provided. Here are a few pictures. To enlarge, please click on an image.

About Mia

What life with Mia looks like

Mia is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Second Chance Dogs e.V. in Zornheim.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mia, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mia?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Second Chance Dogs e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mia on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mia if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Second Chance Dogs e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mia already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mia isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Second Chance Dogs e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mia and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
