Mickey

Male

Mickey, my name. And I have something to tell you. I can see into the future! Because I know exactly what your first thought was: "What a beautiful dog!" To that I can only say confidently: You're right! But let's not get carried away, after all I'm here to find a new home. I ended up in the shelter because my owners couldn't take care of me anymore due to an injury. At first I'm quite shy and reserved here, but I warm up very quickly. The stress and noise here in the shelter still unsettle me a bit, but that's getting better too. By breed I'm a real bundle of energy, as soon as I'm outside I want everything now and immediately! You have to be able to keep up with me to tame me. That's why experience with herding dogs is a must, because as beautiful as I am, I'm also very demanding. You should definitely factor in regular visits to a dog school, because I still have a lot to learn. I would also love to do dog sports like agility or similar, because I get bored very quickly and then don't know where to put all my energy. Do they have a right? I still have to find out for myself and maybe you are the person who could teach me. Then I would be happy about a message from you so we can learn together quickly.

DE·Show original

Tagchen Leute, Mickey mein Name.

About Mickey

What life with Mickey looks like

Mickey is a large adult dog waiting at Tierheim Essen in Essen.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mickey, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mickey?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Essen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mickey on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mickey if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Essen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Mickey already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mickey isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Essen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mickey and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
