Adopt Mieciu

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 14 years

Mieciu was rescued urgently from bad conditions. He lived by a poor shed, to which he was tied with a heavy chain. The area around the shed was trampled mud. The dog had never seen a veterinarian, was not vaccinated, or treated. And he definitely needed treatment. He had hairless areas on his back, looking like ringworm or mites, was dirty and had vision problems. His owner claimed the puppy was 2 years old, but our veterinarian estimated his age at first glance as 14 years. And it's even visible that his eyes are already tired from life, because Mieciu constantly bumps into obstacles. Fortunately, the skin treatment was successful and the bald spots are nicely regrowing. In addition, the dog has gained some roundness here and there, so little remains of his former appearance. The age was re-verified, because it turned out that along with the improvement in appearance, his condition also improved. But it didn't help much - the teeth indicate an advanced age of the dog and he can't be given less than 12 years. In the first days of his stay, the dog somewhat pretended to be unavailable and even tried to snap with his teeth. But over time, his character softened, and probably Mieciu realized that his life has changed for the better. Now he doesn't have to circle on a chain, he has his own apartment with a proper shed, plenty of space, and sometimes goes for walks. And walking is something he really likes, especially being close to a person. When someone comes to him, he immediately runs over and begs for petting. He never gets too much petting. Probably he missed it a lot, and now he's making up for all the deficiencies. He needs to be guided on a leash, so he doesn't run into something, but the dog isn't completely helpless. He hasn't yet gotten along with other dogs. When four-legged friends run toward him, Mieciu gets a bit stressed. It may be due to vision problems. He can even attack. The guy is quite energetic and cheerful. He has gained confidence with us and now shows us his positive character. We are looking for a nice and safe home for him. A permanent one.

A leczenia właśnie wymagał. Gdy ktoś do niego przychodzi, to on natychmiast podbiega i prosi się o głaskanie. U nas nabrał pewności siebie i teraz pokazuje nam swój pozytywny charakter. Szukamy dla niego fajnego i bezpiecznego domu. Takiego na zawsze. About Mieciu

What life with Mieciu looks like

Mieciu is a senior mixed breed dog waiting at IDZ — Inicjatywa Dla Zwierząt in Zielona Góra.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mieciu, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mieciu?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. IDZ — Inicjatywa Dla Zwierząt handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mieciu on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mieciu if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — IDZ — Inicjatywa Dla Zwierząt will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mieciu already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mieciu isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with IDZ — Inicjatywa Dla Zwierząt early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mieciu and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
