adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Mika has found its own home! 82284 Grafrath-Mauern. Mika can travel to his foster home in December! His story: Zalau, Romania. Mika – with twinkling eyes, he hopes very much to find his home soon. Mika has lived in the private shelter Zalau for over a year and suffers greatly there. He longs so much for attention and love, begs our local helpers for cuddles, and suffers from not being able to release his energy. We urgently need a foster or permanent placement for Mika. His gaze pains our hearts, and we would love to see him happy. Mika is estimated to be around 7 years old and brings with him a rather large size of about 60 cm and 33-35 kg. Unfortunately, his teeth are in a not so good condition. Mika shows our helpers great kindness, openness, and cuddliness. He enjoys interacting with people, loves being stroked, and being close to people. He easily wears a harness and walks well on a leash. Mika brings a lot of energy and we suspect sheepdog genes in him. German Shepherds are among the most loyal, people-oriented dog breeds. He is a sporty, intelligent dog who would likely enjoy mental stimulation and physical and mental challenges. He would probably be enthusiastic about various dog sports, such as agility or mantrailing. Sniffing work is generally very popular. A visit to a dog training class that works with positive reinforcement is also recommended to give Mika the best start in an unknown new life in a human household and to learn the basics of dog ABCs. In a dog training class, he can play with fellow dogs under supervision, make positive experiences, and train with his human in a relaxed atmosphere. This not only makes for fun but also strengthens the bond between dog and human. Our Mika is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas. He brings an EU pet passport with him and can travel after a positive adoption. Who will give Mika his ticket to happiness? Thank you Payel B.! You gave Mika his name and thus an identity!

About Mika

What life with Mika looks like

Mika is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mika, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mika?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mika on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mika if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mika already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mika isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mika and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
