Our Mikado is getting braver - Video Our Mikado in Schleckihimmel - Video Our Mikado is a very shy tomcat who initially meets people with great caution. Sometimes he hisses when someone enters the room – not out of malice, but because the situation scares him. It helps best to simply sit quietly next to him, speak softly to him, and give him the time he needs. With patience and understanding, Mikado becomes visibly more relaxed. He observes attentively and begins to trust slowly. For treats, he now even overcomes his shyness and comes very close – a big trust-building step for a tomcat who found it hard to be close for a long time. Especially beautiful to see are the progress he has already made: He now lets himself be gently stroked from behind a toy fishing rod and enjoys these moments so much that he almost falls asleep. Mikado needs people who don’t expect anything from him and allow him to come at his own pace. For him, we wish a home with free roam and definitely another cat by his side for security. This cat needs outdoor access.

About Mikado

What life with Mikado looks like

Mikado is a large puppy/kitten european shorthair cat waiting at Kreistierheim Böblingen in Germany.

Kittens are tiny chaos engines for about six months and then mellow rapidly. They need two scheduled feedings, a litter box per cat plus one extra, and somewhere high to climb. Spay/neuter happens around six months — most shelters arrange this before adoption.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mikado, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mikado?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Kreistierheim Böblingen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mikado on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mikado if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Kreistierheim Böblingen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mikado already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mikado isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Kreistierheim Böblingen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mikado and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
