Mikasi wishes a loving home Mikasi was originally adopted by a family from a killing station. Since the family could not keep him due to his young age and high energy level, they turned to us for help. So Mikasi came to our animal shelter. Learn more about dogs in Romania in our animal welfare FAQ. Mikasi proves himself to be a very friendly and easy-to-handle male in the animal shelter. He encounters people openly. Since he is still young and full of energy, he is looking for people who enjoy an active dog and can provide him with the necessary exercise. This furball is still new in the animal shelter. Our caregivers take the time to get to know and assess each dog. When we know more about the character of this furball, we will supplement this profile. Of course, you can still fill out a self-disclosure for this dog. We suspect that HUNDENAME is a Herdenschutzhund (HSH). Please inform yourself here about the requirements for adopting a Herdenschutzhund. HSH mixes are often very independent and need a confident leadership. HUNDENAME suffers from arthritis/hip dysplasia. For this reason, a home without many stairs is sought to spare the dog pain. (The furball will need medication for the rest of its life.) HUNDENAME has a scar on the muzzle. This is not uncommon in Romania. Many people there still believe today that dogs are protected from diseases if their muzzles are burned. However, the scar does not affect this furball in any way. HUNDENAME has a cropped ear/two cropped ears/a cropped tail. Many dogs in Romania have these cut off to make the animals look more dangerous. HUNDENAME has a short tail. It is unclear whether his/her tail was cropped or congenital. HUNDENAME is currently underweight. On the street or in killing stations, the animals usually get little to no food, so they become very thin. However, in the animal shelter, our furball is fed more food and will hopefully soon be at a normal weight again. HUNDENAME is slightly overweight. Often, people mean well with the dogs and feed them beyond their healthy ideal weight. However, in the animal shelter, the furball is allowed to lose some weight so that it can go to its new home slim and trim. Due to the health status and the high age, we are looking for a Gnadenplatz for this furball. With the agreement of the association, higher veterinary costs are covered and the deposit is waived. The dog should have a better chance of finding a home so that it can spend at least the rest of its life in peace and safety. Due to the health status of this furball, the deposit is waived when adopting. Our handicapped dogs should have a better chance of finding a home so that they can spend at least the rest of their lives in peace and safety. MANDATORY for medical findings (please delete) Our placement team knows the exact health status best. If you have any questions, please feel free to send us a message. For the young Mikasi, we are looking for a home with people who are willing to deal with an active dog and provide him with sufficient exercise and activity. At the same time, he needs people who give him the necessary orientation with calmness and patience. Mikasi should have the chance to settle permanently in a family and find his place. We wish for this furball people who are aware that rescue dogs bring a certain history with them. We can never predict in the animal shelter how a dog will react to life in Germany. That's why we are looking for people who bring patience, perseverance, and goodwill. But one thing is certain: Whoever adopts instead of buying not only gives a second chance to an animal, but also decides actively against

So kam Mikasi in unser Tierheim.

About Mikasi

What life with Mikasi looks like

Mikasi is a puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Hunderettung Europa e.V. in Duisburg.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mikasi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mikasi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hunderettung Europa e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mikasi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mikasi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hunderettung Europa e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mikasi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mikasi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hunderettung Europa e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mikasi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
