adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Now request this dog! Sometimes eyes say more than a thousand words. When you look into Mikkel's eyes, you see a deep shock that makes the heart heavy, but also a tiny spark of hope that he has not yet given up on. Mikkel is a sturdy, large male dog – visually a mixed breed, possibly even a purebred Erdélyi Kopó (Transylvanian Bracke) – who landed in the public shelter of Bistrita. His story is in the dark; why he ultimately ended up on the street remains pure speculation. But even though he appears well-groomed physically, his soul is visibly marked. Mikkel must have experienced things that have shaken his trust in us humans. At first, he would not let anyone get close; he met us with great skepticism and mostly retreated. But Mikkel is opening up more and more and is very interested in his surroundings. One can pet him well, and he enjoys attention very much. He can even already wear a harness. We are looking for experienced people to gently guide Mikkel. Once Mikkel opens up, his breed-typical nature will come to the fore: as an Erdélyi Kopó, he will not only be a loyal companion but also require an appropriate challenge for his fine nose and clever head. He is no dog for couch potatoes, but a partner who wants to explore the world together with his people. A prey drive cannot be ruled out due to his breed. For Mikkel, we wish for a patient, friendly, and loving interaction from experienced people who have no expectations of him and who are not intimidated by setbacks. Children should already be older and know how to handle dogs with respect and responsibility. Mikkel wishes for a quiet home, preferably rural, with an enclosed garden and enough places to retreat if it gets too busy for him. He should always be allowed to set his own pace and decide what is doable or not for him.

Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen! Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt diesen Hund anfragen!

About Mikkel

What life with Mikkel looks like

Mikkel is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mikkel, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mikkel?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mikkel on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mikkel if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mikkel already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mikkel isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mikkel and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
