Milagrito

Female · Adult · 6 years

Milagrito - a dog who wins hearts. The delicate Milagrito has been with her foster family for several months now. When she arrived there from Spain, she was a sickly bundle of misery, marked by an active leishmaniasis and a strong fungal infection. Both were successfully treated, but must be closely monitored and continuously adjusted. Milagrito is a small dog full of fears. Even after months, she allows herself to be touched by her foster father when necessary, but she cannot enjoy it. Human hands cause stress for her; petting and cuddling are foreign to her. She has built trust and closeness with the dog already at the foster home, and the two love each other very much. Milagrito avoids and fears strangers. Who knows what this little soul experienced and suffered in Spain. It took her a long time before she was ready to go outside, and now she loves her walks in nature, away from cars, many people, and possible environmental irritants. Milagrito needs a clearly structured, very quiet home, preferably with a single woman. Perhaps then she will still manage to leave her inner snail shell. Another confident and small dog is essential for her well-being. The small dog is still not housebroken and may never be, as her tension outside is so great that she cannot relax. Therefore, a very secure fenced garden is important for her. Otherwise, she usually reliably goes to her papers. Even though Milagrito is absolutely not a cuddly dog, she touches in her own way immensely. Expectations towards her should not be set, which she cannot fulfill.

About Milagrito

What life with Milagrito looks like

Milagrito is a small adult dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Milagrito, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Milagrito?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Milagrito on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Milagrito if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Milagrito already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Milagrito isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Milagrito and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
