Milan

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 3 years

This large old male dog had to leave his home at an advanced age and was dropped off at the animal shelter. He was in very poor condition and we were asked for help for the senior. Shortly after his arrival with us, we noticed that the poor thing was completely emaciated. Therefore, a quick visit to the vet was in order to clarify the cause. As he had a good appetite, we suspected that something else might not be right. Since Milan is rather uncomplicated and loves everyone right away, the "visit" happened already after four days. The car ride was rather exciting, as he also wanted to drive the car… I found that not so funny and shortened the seatbelt buckle for safety first. So we arrived at the vet practice without any problems. The general examination and blood draw were tolerated by him without further ado. Two days later, we received the findings, which stated that he suffered from a pancreatitis and needed special food. Additionally, an infection was present and the administration of antibiotics was indicated. Our "Big One" (shoulder height 68 cm) quickly settled in with us and is getting more lively by the day. In principle, he is compatible with most dogs, but he grumbles a bit when it comes to large male dogs. During feeding time, he gets a Separée, because he gets rather grumpy when another furball comes near his food bowl. Since Milan is very clingy, he always wants to be in our vicinity. However, that is not always possible, as he does not have a good relationship with our cats and chases them. So he then has to sit in the run behind bars, which he comments on with even-tempered barking. Of course, this is not rewarded, but rather told that such behavior is not desired. He often understands that already. Naturally, he loves the daily walks through the woods and also the brushing and cuddling. We would like to wish the old gentleman a few more beautiful years with us. And who knows, maybe somewhere there is a kind person who still wants to do something good for an older "gentleman.". This animal was surrendered to the shelter.

About Milan

What life with Milan looks like

Milan is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Kleiner Gnadenhof e.V. in Schwaan / OT Letschow.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Milan, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Milan?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Kleiner Gnadenhof e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Milan on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Milan if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Kleiner Gnadenhof e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Milan already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Milan isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Kleiner Gnadenhof e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Milan and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
