Adopt Miley

Border Collie · Female · Young · 1 year

While she can be a little shy when meeting new people, once she has had the chance to get to know you a few times, her affectionate and loyal side really begins to shine. She forms strong bonds with her people and loves being close to those she trusts. One of Miley’s best qualities is how food motivated she is, which has made her training and confidence building much easier. She is eager to learn and responds beautifully to gentle encouragement, patience, and plenty of tasty treats. With the right home, Miley is going to make an incredibly rewarding companion and watching her confidence grow is truly special. Miley is a sweet and gentle 1-year-old Collie looking for a calm, understanding home where she can continue to grow in confidence at her own pace. She would be best suited to a quieter household and could happily live with older teenagers who can respect her space and understand her body language. Miley loves other dogs and could live with them, however she struggles to share her toys with them, so this would need to be managed in the home, or she could go as an only dog, as long as she has dog walking friends to keep her social. Sadly, Miley had never experienced living in a home before coming into foster care, so many everyday things are still new to her. However, she is making lovely progress and slowly learning that the world doesn’t have to be scary. She is now searching for a kind and patient person or family who can give her the love, time, and reassurance she needs to feel safe and secure. Once Miley trusts you, her gentle and affectionate personality really begins to shine. Miley loves exploring and would enjoy having a secure garden to call her own, as this will also help with her house training. With patience, understanding, and another canine companion by her side, Miley has so much potential to blossom into a wonderful lifelong friend.

About Miley

What life with Miley looks like

Miley is a young adult border collie dog waiting at Dogs Trust Newbury in Newbury.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Miley, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Miley?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Newbury handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Miley on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Miley if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Newbury will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Miley already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Miley isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Newbury early rather than rehoming privately; they know Miley and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
