Milly

Mixed Breed · Female

Milly – little sunbeam with a big personality is looking for her home 🐾 Milly has been with us at the animal shelter for some time now. When she arrived, her condition was really poor – her older owner could no longer adequately care for her. And yet: this little female dog has blossomed. She is cheerful, cuddly, funny, and full of character – a real personality with charm and a healthy appetite. She gets along very well with other dogs. With her people, she is clingy and enjoys being close. Milly initially meets strangers with caution and vigilance. If someone just wanders into "her" room, she might give them a little pinch. She is watchful – clever, attentive, and with her own mind. Generally, she is well-behaved, can be left alone for hours, but always needs calm, clear guidance. Health-wise, she has a few projects: Milly has a liver condition, takes liver-protective tablets, and eats special liver diet food. Her spleen was removed due to a benign tumor – everything is in order there. She also had dental work done, and a current blood test is on file. At the animal shelter, Milly has a very special friend: Jochen. A delicate, loving male dog, whose profile can also be found on this website. The two are very attached to each other. Of course, it would be an absolute dream if Milly could move out together with her Jochen. We would like to find her older, but mobile people with heart, clarity, and joy in walks. People who know that even a small dog still needs guidance – and who want to give an older animal a truly nice home once again. Milly has so much life in her. Now she just needs her person – maybe even with her Jochen. About Milly

What life with Milly looks like

Milly is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutz Kinzig-Main e.V. (Tierheim Gelnhausen) in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Milly, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Milly?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutz Kinzig-Main e.V. (Tierheim Gelnhausen) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Milly on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Milly if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutz Kinzig-Main e.V. (Tierheim Gelnhausen) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Milly already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Milly isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutz Kinzig-Main e.V. (Tierheim Gelnhausen) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Milly and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
