Adopt Milo

Cocker Spaniel · Male · Adult · 4 years

Breed: English Cocker Spanish Age: 01-08-2022 Other features: retina atrophy (eye disorder causing Milo to be almost completely blind), poor low back May be with other dogs: Yes Can with cats: Yes Can be on an apartment: Yes, with garden Can with children: yes, 12+ This sweet, kind man was taken to the shelter because his owners could no longer take care of him. It comes from the bread breeding and marks upon entry Soon Milo ran into objects. We went to the specialist and here it turned out that Milo has a degenerative eye disorder, which makes him see little. Especially when it's dark, his vision is very limited. By calling the previous owner later, it turned out he had been showing this behavior for a while. Despite his poorer vision, we got to know Milo as a very friendly dog, both to all caregivers and to dogs. Milo went to a family soon. Here he lives with several other dogs. On the question of how the care family described Milo, we got a sweet, crazy box of pie in an answer. He prefers to throw himself at you completely and can enjoy being petted. He can be alone and sleep at night in the bench, where he feels comfortable. When there's more fuss in the house, Milo finds it harder to rest. It is important for Milo not to find a large family: A smaller family is ideal for him. As much as he likes to stay with his family and no matter how well he understands himself with the dogs of the family, his own home is most desirable for Milo.

About Milo

What life with Milo looks like

Milo is a large adult cocker spaniel dog waiting at Dierenasiel Genk in Genk.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇧🇪Adopting from Belgium

Belgian shelters operate under regional law (Flanders, Wallonia, Brussels each have their own rules). All adoptions include the Eurochip, vaccinations, and a stewardship contract. Several Flemish shelters partner with Dutch and German rescue networks.

Frequently asked

Adopting Milo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Milo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierenasiel Genk handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Milo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Milo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierenasiel Genk will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Milo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Milo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierenasiel Genk early rather than rehoming privately; they know Milo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
