Adopt Katten

Mixed Breed · Female · Kitten · 4 months

Due to the high volume, we are not always able to list all Katten on our website. Adopting a cat takes place exclusively by appointment. If you are interested in a cat, please fill in the questionnaire found here. We will contact you as soon as possible. Only after we have contacted you by phone and/or email and made an appointment for a meeting with the cat, the cat is reserved. The adoption takes place exclusively after written agreement from the adopter and the animal shelter in Genk. If you have any other questions, email us at: [email protected] or feel free to call between 3 and 6 p.m. Make sure, when adopting a cat (small or large), that you have a transport crate so the Katten can be safely transported to their new home! We are always looking for people who have space to accommodate farm cats. What do you need? A place where they can get used to the new environment before they regain their freedom. This can be a barn, shed, garden house, etc. It is important to make sure the cat cannot escape during the first few days. In exchange for some food, water, and a sleeping spot, these Katten will keep your garden mouse-free. The Katten are neutered/spayed by us. Do you have interest or do you have any questions? Please contact us and we will gladly help you further! Visit this page: Help prevent cat suffering and have your pet cat sterilized/castrated. The animal shelter is overwhelmed with small kittens. Kittens without a mother, abandoned, unwanted by people, and also feral kittens. Every year it seems the animal shelter is too small to accommodate the influx of kittens and adult Katten. Not all these kittens are lucky enough to find a new home quickly. Not all kittens can end up in a club or animal shelter due to the large number. This can be prevented! Have your cat sterilized/castrated and avoid animal suffering.

About Katten

What life with Katten looks like

Katten is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed cat waiting at Dierenasiel Genk in Genk.

Kittens are tiny chaos engines for about six months and then mellow rapidly. They need two scheduled feedings, a litter box per cat plus one extra, and somewhere high to climb. Spay/neuter happens around six months — most shelters arrange this before adoption.

🇧🇪Adopting from Belgium

Belgian shelters operate under regional law (Flanders, Wallonia, Brussels each have their own rules). All adoptions include the Eurochip, vaccinations, and a stewardship contract. Several Flemish shelters partner with Dutch and German rescue networks.

Frequently asked

Adopting Katten, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Katten?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierenasiel Genk handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Katten on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Katten if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierenasiel Genk will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Katten already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Katten isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierenasiel Genk early rather than rehoming privately; they know Katten and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
