Milo

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 5 years

Milo is a young, dynamic hunting dog and a real powerhouse. He brings a lot of drive, energy, and joy – but also some areas that need to be worked on. Milo has hardly known any boundaries in his previous life. He was treated like a child until now – which explains his close bond, but also the lack of proper upbringing. He makes many decisions on his own, is easily distracted and frustrated, and clearly shows when something doesn’t suit him – sometimes even with his teeth. Being alone is hard for him; on one hand, he has never had to be alone, and on the other, he struggles with the loss of control. Additionally, Milo shows food aggression, which requires special caution and clear rules. He is physically very strong and needs firm, sovereign people who can give him clear and fair leadership. Milo needs people with dog experience who have the time and desire to work with him and promote both his physical and mental well-being. This should happen with a lot of calm, as soon as Milo focuses, he works wonderfully. Dynamic games would be completely out of place here. Due to his drive, he cannot live in a household with children. With other dogs, Milo is generally compatible depending on the relationship. However, he often oversteps boundaries here, but reacts better to clear commands from fellow animals than from humans. Despite everything, Milo is not a "bad dog" – he is a dog with needs that have hardly been seen or met. In the right hands, he can become a loyal companion who is very clingy and builds a close bond with his people. Whoever meets Milo with expertise, patience, and the necessary measure of consistency will find an exciting, fun, but above all honest dog partner who is eager to work and ready to learn anew.

DE·Show original

About Milo

What life with Milo looks like

Milo is a extra-large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Bonn in Bonn.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Milo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Milo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Bonn handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Milo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Milo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Bonn will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Milo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Milo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Bonn early rather than rehoming privately; they know Milo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
