Milo

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 10 years

Milo is finally searching for his forever home. Milo came to us as a found dog at the animal shelter. Over time, we realized that he had already had several previous owners and had lost his home several times in his past life. Despite this, Milo has remained a friendly, open, and lovable dog. He approaches people openly and curiously. He has an insecure and jumpy nature, but he is not afraid. New or unfamiliar situations can sometimes unsettle him for a moment – then he may flinch or pause. But his curiosity usually wins out quickly. He wants to understand what is happening around him and likes to orient himself to his people. With kind support and a little encouragement, he adapts well to new things and shows a beautiful willingness to learn together. Even in everyday life, Milo impresses with his pleasant nature. He is attentive, people-oriented, and wants to please. At the same time, it is clear that he has mostly lacked something: stability. Milo is looking for people who will give him the time to truly settle in and build trust. Milo is generally compatible with other dogs. He handles group walks without problems. However, in free interaction with dog groups, his insecurity becomes apparent. When situations become too loud, hectic, or dynamic, he feels quickly overwhelmed. Then he sometimes tries to intervene or brake other dogs, but often retreats the moment he gets closer. Here, he needs a little more support, confidence, and clear orientation from his people. Despite his good approachability, we see great potential for development here. Milo could potentially be rehomed with an already existing dog, provided the chemistry is right. Like all our dogs, he also receives a leash training, so that encounters and possible groupings can be secured additionally if needed. Whether Milo can live with cats or children cannot be assessed at this time. Corresponding tests are possible with serious interest. We also cannot currently make reliable statements about his indoor cleanliness or his ability to be left alone. For Milo, we wish for people who enjoy growing together with their dog, experiencing small and great adventures, and giving him the time he needs. Due to his jumpy nature, one should not expect a fully secure off-leash dog at his side after a short time. However, for those who bring patience, understanding, and a little guidance, Milo can become an incredibly sympathetic companion with the potential to become a true heart dog. Milo has often had to start anew. Now, he just needs a home where he can finally stay.

About Milo

What life with Milo looks like

Milo is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Düren und Umgebung in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Milo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Milo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Düren und Umgebung handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Milo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Milo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Düren und Umgebung will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Milo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Milo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Düren und Umgebung early rather than rehoming privately; they know Milo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
