Description Our animal welfare workers report: where do you go when you have no roof over your head, in the middle of a cold winter and the ground is partially frozen, your paws hurt, your stomach grumbles, and there is a daily shortage of food and water? Mina lived in the wilderness of Romania, she is a strong and clever female dog! When she became pregnant again and birth was approaching, she sought a slightly warmer spot to shield her from the relentless cold of the Romanian winter: a parked, blue car. Although Mina is not a small female dog (see pictures and videos), she skillfully used the wind-protected spot on the ground under the parked car and squeezed into the gap on the ground. Perhaps the standing car still gave off a little residual warmth. Here, she lovingly nursed her seven puppies, of which all but the male dogs Carlos2 were already happily rehomed. The little fur-bearers were snuggled closely to Mama’s belly and warmed their small bodies as best they could, and drank the nutritious milk – until they were discovered. The animal welfare workers were notified and came to collect the brave, selfless mother dog and her puppies. Mina was already known; last year, she had given birth to nine puppies, of which three died, the others were secured and brought to an animal shelter, but Mina was unfortunately not caught back then, so she could not be spayed, which led to her unfortunately giving birth again. This time, it worked, Mina and her litter of puppies were sheltered under the car and brought to the shelter. But no dog should have to stay there long, confined in a cage, behind bars. Especially for a freedom-loving female dog like Mina, who knew an independent life, this foreign imposition is very bitter and oppressive. Mina is still a little shy and does not understand what it means to be treated well and kindly by humans; until now, she was only chased away, sometimes even driven away, Mina lived withdrawn. However, she already shows trust towards the animal caregivers, and it is being worked on step by step in the shelter to help Mina learn to cooperate with people and build trust. Mina can now also be stroked. Who would like to enable Mina a worry-free life, where she can finally swing her soul in her own home? About Mina

What life with Mina looks like

Mina is a puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Tierischgeholfen e.V. in Germany.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mina, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mina?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierischgeholfen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mina on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mina if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierischgeholfen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mina already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mina isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierischgeholfen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mina and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
