Adopt Mindi

European Shorthair · Female · Senior · 12 years

Hello, dear two-leggeds out there! I am female cat Mindi and have lived here at the Cottbuser animal shelter since 2023. Precisely in the Cat Park, and more specifically: most of the time in the sun! 😸 That's where I like to lie, most of all! I leave the playing and running around to the younger generation … although I'm still in top condition at ten years old, I don't have to exaggerate, right? 🙄 Just like I handle things with you two-leggeds. That's probably why I've been waiting here for pickup since last year. When people come to visit, I prefer to watch them from a distance rather than approach them directly. But that doesn't mean I'm not willing to let you get close to me! I just would like some time to settle in completely in peace … then it will work out! For my future, I wish for a relaxed retirement with plenty of space – preferably in your garden or on a farm. I'd also be happy to come in to eat and sleep with you. Additionally, I could see myself as a mini-job as a land watch and garden helper. Someone has to keep an eye on what's happening out there, right?! I would be really thrilled if you would give me a chance. Summer is knocking on the door, and I would love to pack my bags and start a new life!

About Mindi

What life with Mindi looks like

Mindi is a very small senior european shorthair cat waiting at Tierheim Cottbus in Cottbus.

Senior cats are the gentlest house guests: predictable, mostly silent, and grateful for a sunny windowsill. Older cats often have minor dental or kidney issues — keep an eye on water intake and weight. Many sleep eighteen hours a day and want no part of any drama.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mindi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mindi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Cottbus handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mindi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mindi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Cottbus will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mindi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mindi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Cottbus early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mindi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
